How Your A/C Functions

Air conditioning is based on the principles of heat exchange in gasses. Your A/C uses a special gas known as a refrigerant that can easily be compressed to bring about your cold air. As the gas is compressed into a liquid, it releases energy in the form of heat and gets hotter. Your condenser then cools down the liquid before it’s released into a non-pressurized chamber. This release takes in energy, taking out ambient heat from the chamber and the air around it to make your air cold. The refrigerant is then recycled to be used again.

Generally, when your A/C breaks down, it’s either due to a compressor problem or a leak in your A/C. Leaks in your A/C reduce the pressure of the refrigerant, making it harder to maintain the closed air conditioning system. To find leaks, our technicians use a fluorescent dye that they inject into the system, and then they search for that dye leaking out anywhere. Once they find the leak, they can replace the part that leaks.
